Connect your OpenRouter, Poe or Hugging Face account¶
OpenRouter, Poe and Hugging Face are services that let you use many AI models from one account. To run a QuickAgent on one of them you normally paste an API key, a long secret code that lets a program use your account. Connect your account skips the pasting. You approve Agentry in your browser, and the provider makes a key for Agentry on its own. Nothing to copy, nothing to paste.
This works for runs on your own computer only: the desktop app and the
agentry command. A run In Agentry (hosted) always uses Agentry's own
model access, never your account at these providers
(Running on Agentry).
What it does¶
- You choose Connect your account instead of pasting a key.
- The provider's own page opens in your browser. Sign in there if it asks, and approve Agentry.
- The provider makes a key for Agentry. It is billed to your account at the provider, at that provider's prices and limits.
- Agentry keeps the key on your computer, in the same place it keeps a key you paste (your computer's built-in password store). You never see it.
Runs on this computer then use that account, and the provider bills the model's work to it.
Connect in the desktop app¶
- Open Settings → Model provider. The first-run setup has the same choice.
- Choose OpenRouter, Poe or Hugging Face.
- Choose Connect your account, then click the button. Your browser opens.
- Approve in your browser.
- Type the model, then Save (the model).
On the command line, run agentry setup and choose to connect when it asks
what pays for the model. Or run agentry model-signins add openrouter,
agentry model-signins add poe or agentry model-signins add huggingface.
agentry model-signins list shows what is connected, with the account's name
and, for Poe, when the key ends. If your computer has no browser, the command
prints an address and waits ten minutes. Open it on another computer, approve
there, and paste back the address your browser ends on.
Connecting needs your computer's built-in password store. Where there is
none, Agentry says so before it opens your browser, and you paste a key
instead. If you set the provider's key variable (OPENROUTER_API_KEY,
POE_API_KEY or HF_TOKEN), runs use that value and not the connected key.
The model¶
Agentry does not list the models of these providers, because the lists are huge. You type the model's name:
- OpenRouter:
anthropic/claude-sonnet-4.5 - Poe:
Claude-Sonnet-4.6 - Hugging Face:
openai/gpt-oss-120b:groq. The part after the colon names the company that serves the model.
Use the name exactly as the provider shows it. A model that cannot use tools will not work, and the run fails. Pick another model.
How long it lasts¶
- OpenRouter's key stays valid until you delete it on OpenRouter.
- Poe lets you choose how long the key lasts, on Poe's own page. After that date a run refuses to start and says so. Connect again, or paste a key.
- Hugging Face gives Agentry access that renews itself. Agentry renews it at the start of each run. If Hugging Face refuses, the run says the connect is broken and asks you to connect again.
When the account has no credit¶
If the account has no credit left, the provider refuses the model's calls and the run ends with out of credits, with the provider's own words. Add credit at the provider, or pay another way. Agentry cannot top up an account.
Disconnecting¶
Choose Disconnect beside the provider in Settings → Model provider.
On the command line, run agentry model-signins remove openrouter, poe or
huggingface. Agentry deletes the key from your computer first. Then it says
what the provider still holds. Agentry says "forgotten here", never
"revoked", for what the provider was not asked to cancel.
These providers give an app no way to cancel what it was given. So Agentry forgets the key on your computer, but it stays valid at the provider until you delete it there:
- OpenRouter: openrouter.ai/settings/keys
- Poe: poe.com/api/keys
- Hugging Face: huggingface.co/settings/connected-applications. Remove Agentry from that list yourself, because Hugging Face offers no way for an app to cancel it.
If you paste a key later¶
A key you paste for the same provider replaces the connected one. Agentry then forgets the connection, so Disconnect no longer shows it. The key you pasted is what runs use. Connecting again replaces a pasted key the same way.
What is not ready, and what has been tested¶
- Poe is not available yet. Poe needs an app registered for Agentry, and that is still to be done. Until then, Connect your account for Poe says it is not available yet. Paste a Poe key instead.
- Connect has been tested against stand-ins, practice copies of each provider's service, and against the providers' real pages only as far as checking that they accept Agentry's request. It has not been tried with a real OpenRouter, Poe or Hugging Face account. That live test is still to come. What this page says about key lifetimes and wording comes from the providers' own documentation, so what you see may differ.
